Faithorn Farrell Timms is proud to be working in partnership with Worthing Homes, Rydon Group and the University of Brighton in an innovative project seeking to reduce carbon emissions in occupied homes. The project seeks to identify a suite of low cost solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by employing simple, but innovative retrofit improvement works, coupled with training and support to modify occupational behaviour and energy consumption.

The study will be carried out over a 12 month period and will involve a combination of works and monitoring to four houses in Worthing, West Sussex, which are fitted with remote energy monitoring devices to track reductions in actual energy consumption. A key output of the study is to develop a household energy rating score and certificate which relates specifically to the occupants' behaviour and use of energy in the home.

Domestic Energy Assessment

Southern Housing Group logo

Faithorn Farrell Timms has been appointed by Southern Housing Group, under a four-year contract, to produce Energy Performance Certificates to meet its obligations under the EPBD.

We are undertaking joint energy and stock condition surveys which maximises the use of our resources and allows our client to capture and retain rdSAP energy data in its preferred E-State Pro asset management software. The surveys are being undertaken using wireless hand-held computer technology, with EPC's produced directly from the E-State Pro system via the internet.

We have a dedicated EPC energy survey and administration team which is able to roll this service out across the south of England, for all of our social housing clients to facilitate quick and full compliance with Registered Providers' obligations.

Passive House

A scheme developed for West Kent Housing Association utilising the principles of Passive House embraces very good levels of insulation, the maximising of solar gains, exemplary levels of airtightness and good indoor air quality; usually achieved through mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. The result of such design is a small heating demand that can be easily accommodated via a compact services unit.

We were commissioned by our client to provide three new build houses, for which we specified the SIPS Building System which comprises high insulated sandwich panels with a conventional brick and tile hung external appearance. This UK manufactured product exhibits outstanding levels of energy conservation and, as the system is manufactured off-site, it can be erected on-site within fine tolerances, achieving excellent airtightness.

Careful consideration of the orientation of the structures, with particular regard to solar gain ensured that three of the Passive House criteria were achieved. Airtightness tests showed that the units achieved a rating of 8 out of 10.
